The Ghanaian restaurant Nottingham talks about

If you grew up on fufu on a Sunday, banku from the beach or waakye from the corner, you'll know within one mouthful. If you didn't, this is the place to find out. African Base cooks Ghanaian food the way it's cooked at home in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale — slow soups, fresh-pounded swallow, whole fish on the grill, pepper that means it.

We're on the Bar Lane Industrial Estate in Old Basford, ten minutes from Nottingham city centre — eat in, take away, or order for delivery.

Soups and swallow

Fufu, banku, omo tuo, kenkey, konkonte, tuo zaafi — every Ghanaian swallow, made fresh, with goat light soup, groundnut soup, palm-nut soup or okro stew. Choose your swallow; choose your soup.

From the grill

Whole tilapia, marinated in ginger and pepper, grilled to order and served on acheke, banku, kenkey, yam or plantain, with shito and fresh pepper. Small, medium or large — sized to the table.

Rice, beans and plantain

Waakye the full Accra way, jollof with proper char, red red beans with sweet fried plantain, kontomire stew with boiled plantain and avocado.
